Open-back headphones have been gamers’ first pick for quite some time. Another use case that I did clearly shows these headsets are perfect to use in the studio.

If you are one of those music enthusiasts, go ahead and pick the one from my list of the top 11 gaming headsets.

I wanted to test this pair of headphones for gaming. And finally got them a few months back. So, my longing for the pair is fulfilled now.

While I enjoy playing on my PC, I also like to remain aware of the world around me. Sound, and one of the few, if not the only, set with a gaming-focused selling point at a very competitive price.

In my first use case of these open-back headphones, I could feel a world of difference in sound. But that’s because all other gaming headsets I bought in the past have features like bass and treble.

The reproduction of sound is very good. It’s so clear and natural that you can’t look for any other gaming headset.

They are very light and comfortable. Thanks to the discreet, open design! I didn’t feel my ears sweat even after long gaming sessions.

I wear glasses too and I did not have any issues with them playing games with headphones over my head. These headsets are pretty wide with large velour ear pads.

For console gamers, you can use headphones on your stick thanks to the PCV 05 headset adapter.

Converting this into two ports on headphones to a single jack improves compatibility with Nintendo Switch, PS4, PC, and Mac.

If you want to connect your Sennheiser PC37X Open-Back Gaming headphones to your Xbox One, you’ll need to use the Xbox Stereo Headset Adapter.

The PC37X Open-Back headphones are reasonably priced. Produced by a company that excels in audiophile sets for true enthusiasts, their low-end headsets naturally mimic the look, feel, and sound of brands like Turtle Beach for cheap imitations.

Are you looking for decent wired gaming headphones for a reasonable price?

I am sure you are!

Come along with me, I have picked Philips SHP9600 on the list of top 11 gaming cans because these are good enough for wired gaming.

These headsets are very comfortable and don’t give you a sense of fatigue for long gaming sessions. I tested and tried the cans with Xbox One, PS4, and PC gaming and I did not find any lag. Thanks to the wired connection.

The headphone also has a little more punch in the bass register, so you can feel the explosions and other action-packed scenes in your favorite games.

When I bought these, I knew I would miss audiophiles quality. Luckily, I am not among them. Therefore, I did not give much significance to audiophiles and picked this for my viewers.

All that said, what I found a little annoying is the sound quality of these open-back cans. The bass level is so high that sometimes I found it tough to hear the whole instrument when listening to music.

I do a lot of tweaking with the equalizer on my PC to make it sound normal, but it still doesn’t come up to my expectation with the sound.

However, I am pretty much impressed with the beauty of the headphones that they are the most comfortable pair I have ever worn. They very fit on my head and ear head.

The clamps and cloth ear cups are perfect and easy to wear all day long. So, the build quality is very good, but the audio quality could be improved, as already said.

There are other headphones in a similar price range with better delivery of sound quality. Overall, the 9600 works pretty well in gaming setups and holds some value with its 3.5mm jack.

Pros
  • Excellent delivery sound quality
  • Outstanding audio drivers matching audiophile
  • Very comfortable for long gaming sessions
  • Mic delivers clear and ambient free communication
Cons
  • Very high clamping pressure
  • Connecting cable doesn’t look very attractive

3. Audio-Technica ATH-GDL3BK Open-Back Gaming Headset

value for money

These are the very lightweight headset and offers long hours of comfortable gaming. The cans come with 45 mm drivers and deliver high-resolution audio with excellent details. I recently bought the Audio-Technica ATH-GDL3 and found it to be a one-of-a-kind product in the world of gaming headsets.

It features an open design that emphasizes sound quality and simplicity. Unlike other modern gaming headsets, this one connects via a good old headphone jack.

After using the Audio-Technica GDL3 for a couple of months, I found out everything there is to know. The headset is really comfortable for me and easy to use even during long gaming and listening sessions.

The left earcup has an easily adjustable volume control, as well as a mic mute switch. Microphones can be easily detached and attached.

It’s very interesting to see the mic also features a foam pop filter to improve sound quality. What I found even more appealing is the design of ATH-GDL3. It’s generally very minimalist with lightweight plastic and metal material.

I could feel some creak and shift with the can when putting the headset on and off, but it wasn’t noticeable when I put it on my head.

I don’t see any superfluous features like RGB lighting. This is beneficial for people who don’t like over-design.

Compared to other headsets in this price range, I feel the ATH-GDL3 isn’t the most comfortable. The rubberized headband holds the headset properly on my head but lacks padding.

In my experience, the Audio-Technica ATH-GDL3 is a great option for gamers who want high-quality audio for their games.

The open design complements the sound of games such as Control and Elden Ring very well. A detachable mic is a great option for late-night discord sessions or online multiplayer games.

Unlike other gaming headsets, the Audio-Technica ATH-GDL3 doesn’t include any extra software to handle things like surround sound or EQ.

You might take care of these things separately on your own.

Pros
  • Very delivery of sound quality
  • Detachable microphone works very well
  • Easy and smooth control functions
  • Ear pads and cables are easily replaceable
Cons
  • Plastic construct looks a little cheap
  • Sound leakage by design and nature
  • Creak and shift when on/off

4. Beyerdynamic TYGR 300R Open-Back Gaming Headset

single player

These are extremely light open-back gaming headsets best suited for single-player games. Beyerdynamic TYGR 300R is good for gaming on PC as well as gaming consoles. The headphones provide a spatial soundstage with in-gam sound localization. The TYGR 300 R Open-Back headsets come with replaceable pads and a headband.

Affiliate Links/ Images from Amazon

The Beyerdynamic TYGR 300R open-back gaming headphones are great stereo headphones with good gaming features.

If you seriously want a great headset and mic for gaming, streaming, or podcasting and you don’t have either yet, it’s a fantastic option you can consider buying

You might think of closed-back headphones with a protruding mic. The Beyerdynamic TYGR 300R gaming headphones have a traditional shape and offer PC gamers a new level of audio quality.

These gaming cans are specially tailored for those who enjoy being immersed in another world. The TYGR 300 R is a rugged headset with a metal frame and sturdy ear cups.

The band is made of flexible metal and wrapped in faux leather padding secured with Velcro. The ear pads also keep the cord connecting.

The headphones are equipped with comfortable round velour pads, making them perfect for gamers who wear glasses.

These are some of the less obtrusive gaming headphones. They neither have colored LEDs or flashy designs.

You can wear the Beyerdynamic TYGR 300R Open-Back gaming headset without worrying about the appearance of a UFO docking on your head.

The Beyerdynamic TYGR 300R is wired gaming headphones. And since it’s Beyerdynamic’s legendary audio fidelity, it doesn’t have the gimmicks that typical gaming headsets depend on.

Another thing to consider is the type of games you play with these headphones. The Beyerdynamic TYGR 300R is perfect for single-player games where immersion is the name of the game.

However, the lack of a built-in mic is definitely an issue when playing esports games where voice communication is important for long periods of time.

Then what’s the option left?

Obviously, the one way around this is to use a standalone USB microphone. You can use it either way, but the open design tends to make that approach a little strange.

Again, there is a catch, the sound may leak from the headphones into the microphone. And this a conflict. Isn’t it?

But, frankly speaking, this didn’t bother me a lot given all the other god features.

Pros
  • These are great value for money
  • Good gaming headsets with a great stereo
  • Deliver very good experience for PC gamers
  • Minimalist design
Cons
  • Lack of built-in Mic
  • Leakage of sound by design
  • More suitable for single-player games

5. EPOS I Sennheiser GAME ONE Open-Back Gaming Headset

Best comfort

The headphones display a classic slim silhouette and lightweight design. They have a luxuriously padded headband and XXL plush velvet ear pads for maximum comfort. Classic open acoustic gaming headsets deliver natural, spatial sonic sound.

Affiliate Links/ Images from Amazon

The Sennheiser Game One open-back cans are good for gaming coupled with great sound quality. This apart, I am really impressed with its comfortable design and fit along with low latency and a good mic that reasonably keeps away a lot of noise.

Being open-back headphones, these gaming headsets have a more spacious soundstage than other gaming counterparts.

Open-back headsets are breathable. And it also holds the truth for EPOS I Sennheiser GAME ONE cans. I am very happy that I could wear them for long gaming sessions. But they are not as good as noise-canceling headphones.

One thing that I found a little annoying with these cans is that there are very negligible software support and customization options.

But honestly speaking, these gaming headsets are by far as good as other high-end gaming cans.  This is a good one. Isn’t it?

Another factor that pulls them a little down is their quiet mic. This can be a significant drawback in important voice communication.

Therefore, if you are looking for ultra bass, you might just want to look at a little more pricy or shell out a few extra bucks or look elsewhere.

I have been talking about open-back headphones. Though these are good for audiophiles, gaming in noisy environments will not produce very attractive results.

When I bought the Sennheiser GAME ONE, I spent a couple of months with the headsets to see how they turn out as gaming headphones.

Ok. So, what did I find then? And my answer is- like many other gaming headsets, the Sennheiser GAME ONE has a very specific aesthetic, appealing to those enthused to spend reasonably long sessions on the computer.

Thankfully, this headset isn’t clad in RGB lighting or extreme branding, but for Sennheiser, the red accents are a little out of place.

Their connectivity with multiple platforms is awesome. The included cables have great connections and work very well PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Mac.

All in all, these are very good open-back gaming headphones at an affordable price for all gaming enthusiasts. You can go ahead and pick a pair now.

Pros
  • Great delivery of sound quality
  • Very balanced reproduction of audio
  • Light-weight and comfortable
  • Good connectivity with included 3.5mmcable
  • Great delivery of sound quality
  • Very balanced reproduction of audio
  • Light-weight and comfortable
  • Good connectivity with included 3.5mmcable
Cons
  • Average delivery with mic
  • Playing in noisy environments can mess up your game
  • Naturally high leakage of sound
  • Noise isolation cannot be expected from open-back cans

6. Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X Open-Back Gaming Headphone

3D wing support

The headphones have 3D Wing Support for a comfortable listening experience. They have Flexible fabric earpads for excellent wearing comfort and durability. The 53 mm drivers reproduce clear treble and midrange, very good audio. Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X gold-plated stereo 3.5 mm connector with 1/4 6.3mm adapter.

Affiliate Links/ Images from Amazon

Gamers, if you are looking for a gaming headset that delivers just good performance on the budget, you are on the right track.

The Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X open-back gaming headphones are the ones you want to buy. They deliver good sound for critical listening and help you spot your opponents in the game.

These open-back cans are comfortable and decently well-built. However, if you are looking for a pair of casual headphones, there are other options. They are versatile enough to use outside or in noisy environments.

Since I was a bit short of budget, I was looking for average-priced gaming headphones. One of my friends who is also a hardcore gamer suggested the ATH-AD700X would be the best option to give a try.

I was not very confident in the first place because this pair of headsets was completely new. Still, bought this pair on a trial basis.

Things turned out very well for me.

The ATH-AD700X’s headband is very impressive. I like this and feel very comfortable wearing it. The headband didn’t put excessive pressure on my head, it’s balanced.

The earcups are large and well-padded with plush cushions that feel good against the skin, although the earcup openings are a bit small for larger ears.

But, the downside I could see with this pair of gaming cans is that the AD700X doesn’t fit well during physical activity.

This is not a big problem for me because I bought these headsets for gaming and listening. If you go for outdoor activities; jogging, exercising putting your headphone over your head, you might have to be a little more careful.

The headset fits snugly for casual listening sessions, but the cable is non-removable. So, if something gets caught, the headphones will pull away from your head.

Overall, the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X delivers great sound and a comfortable experience. The tonal balance is good, although the mids might be a little too pronounced in some situations.

For above average sound affordable price, It’s a must buy headphone.

Pros
  • Well-padded ear pads and comfortable
  • Adjustable headband
  • Delivers a very good tonal balance
  • Very good value for the money
Cons
  • Sound leakage by nature
  • Not very good for outdoor activities
  • Headband has many joints and may become brittle
  • Fixed cable has its own limitations

7. EPOS Audio H6PRO Open Acoustic Gaming Headset

Best soundstage

The headphone delivers a great soundstage with natural gaming audio best in a noiseless environment. There is a great delivery of a balanced signature for ultimate immersion. The gaming cans are lightweight and have good padding and a 2-axis hinge in ear cups.

Affiliate Links/ Images from Amazon

EPOS Audio H6PRO open-back headphones come with very good features. But falls a little behind Corsair’s Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT. This is also a truth that the latter is expensive too.

In my experience, Epos has taken a significantly different approach with the H6Pro. The company’s history has a connect with the Sennheiser brand, and Epos’ latest flagship headset is a plug-and-play analog device designed for comfort and great sound.

For me, Epos H6Pro has been a very exciting gaming headset with great sound for my PC or console without the fuss and extra features.

If you are looking for a similar kind of headset, the Epos H6Pro is worth your consideration. However, you might say the price range is on a little higher side as they don’t have many extra features

But it’s pretty sturdy and solid, though it has mostly plastic build and doesn’t look very premium.

The basic concept of the H6PRO more or less similar to the Epos H3 headset. But it got a lot of improvements. I strongly believe they offer some new features worth considering if you’re in the market for a new gaming headset.

The H6Pro gaming headphones are equipped with 42mm drivers. I am very impressed with its capacity to produce excellent sound.

Moreover, the open-design cans don’t completely block your ears from the outside world. However, the little lag that I found is with the volume. It’s not as high as I expected.

These headsets have a foldable two-way mic. Interestingly you can easily detach it with a magnetic connection.

I found it a little annoying because it didn’t keep away the noise in front coming from another room or surroundings. But that’s true with the open-air cans.

This gaming headset is perfectly suitable for carrying around without feeling a little silly. Also, there are in the box that fit over the sides of the earcups, making it neat even without the mic.

Pros
  • Quite an expansive sound reproduction
  • Removable and flip-to-mute Mic
  • Very comfortable for long gaming sessions
  • Good and sturdy build quality
Cons
  • Price could be a little higher side
  • Mic quality needs more improvement
  • Noise filtering by nature and design
  • High is not as good as expected

8. Audio-Technica ATHPDG1 Open-Back Gaming Headset

best street use

It has 1.2m PC & PS4 compatible detachable gooseneck mic cable with volume & mute control. There is 1.2m smartphone cable with a built-in mic, volume slider and one-button controller, perfect for street use. If you are a serious gamer and understand the natural sound of open-back headphones, here is the one you should consider. The Audio-Technica ATHPDG1 Open-Back Gaming Headset.

These open cans have all the features to give you powerful, detailed sound and long-lasting comfort. They have large 40mm drivers with CCAW voice coils. They are greatly tuned to reproduce excellent sound details and deliver an exciting gaming experience.

When I got these headphones, I was not sure how they deliver overall performance. But these honeycomb-designed open-back cans are very comfortable.

At the same time, the lightweight aluminum housing provides a natural, spatial sound while keeping your ears in place even at the highest intensity.

I am really happy to see that the ATH-PDG1 super soft leather ear pads and headband kept me very comfortable even when I played for a long.

The ATH-PDG1 is also equipped with a flexible 6-inch boom mic for clear voice communication with other players in-game.

With a 1.2m cable and built-in volume and mute controls, this mic can be detached and replaced with a 1.2m smartphone cable. Pretty impressive hu!

The smartphone cable will help turn this gaming headset into headphones for on-the-go use, perfect for taking calls and controlling audio and video on your smartphone or other portable devices.

An additional 2.0m extension cable features two 3.5mm mini-plugs for microphone and audio and works with either of the 1.2m cables for added flexibility when gaming on the computer.

Since I am talking of open-back headphones, these are not very effective to isolate outside noise. But, they surely pump more audio into the room. That means I cannot expect the same amount of bass the closed cans produce.

That said, I love them because they are great at creating a wider soundstage and giving the impression that sounds are coming from the surroundings.

All in all, the Audio-Technica ATHPDG1 Open-Back headphones deliver very good overall gaming performance.

Pros
  • Sound delivery with great details
  • Comfortable for long-lasting sessions
  • Detachable and replaceable cable
  • Great for creating a wide soundstage
Cons
  • Headband doesn’t look very impressive
  • Noise isolation by nature and design

The AKG K702 open-back gaming headphone is one of my favorites when it comes to competitive gaming. It’s a lovely headset that helps me clearly distinguish player actions from footsteps, gunshots, and other sounds.

The AKG K702 is basically an upgraded version of his popular K701. According to AKG the K702 is unique. It uses flat wire technology along with its patented Varimotion double-layer diaphragm technology powered by neodymium magnets.

On the other side, I couldn’t find these claims addressing how sound is affected. One of the great features that really impressed me is its detachable cable.

The cable can be adjusted and changed as needed. For gaming, the AKG K702 is perfect.

These Headphones are mostly made of plastic. The earcups and headphone rails are also made with plastic material, but I found they are durable and seem to be of good quality.

The headband is self-adjusting, using two wires and leather with elastic threads. The leather is soft, but if you have a large head, you may not like the self-adjusting headband.

The ear cups are padded and covered with velour. They are angled and rest on your ears in a more natural position.

The ear cups are not very deep, but they are comfortable to wear for long sessions. The earcups share plenty of room for breathing. These are super ventilated so you don’t get too hot on hot days.

The ear pads are easily removable for easy cleaning or replacement when needed. The clamping force is relaxed and does not press hard on the sides of the head.

Overall, the K702 offers great comfort. The lightweight design also helps improve comfort. Judging by the overall sound performance, the AKG K702 is more capable in terms of precision, detailed sound reproduction, clarity, soundstage, and imaging.

What I found a little annoying is the bass. It didn’t impress me to the extent I expected.

Pros
  • Detail sound delivery
  • Comfortable for long sessions
  • Detachable cable
  • Breathable ear cups
Cons
  • Less effective bass
  • Plastic build looks little cheap

The Drop + Sennheiser PC38X Gaming Headset is a wired gaming headphone developed by Drop and Sennheiser. Therefore, we call it “Drop + Sennheiser PC38X Gaming Headset “.

When held the headset, it looked similar to its other sibling Sennheiser Game One gaming headset. It has a recessed volume wheel, an open design, and a warm sound profile.

I really liked the sound reproduction. There is great clarity and precision, with high bass and boom in-game sound effects.

Coming to the mic quality, I am impressed with the recording quality with some isolation from ambient sound.

But one thing I found a little disappointing is, the gaming headset doesn’t have a companion app. At the same time, it lacks a load of customization, and I couldn’t feel the reproduction of muffled bass.

If it’s your first buy in the gaming headset, Drop+PC38X is the culmination of years of hard work put on by Massdrop to create affordable alternatives for its buyers.

The collaboration between Sennheiser and later with Epos, is an excellent result that these companies are making more affordable open backs with superb audio quality.

But do you think I got the most out of my headset by stripping it to its bare essentials? I am sure you do, absolutely a big yes.

I am overwhelmed with the sound delivery of the PC38X. I didn’t find it lagging behind any other game cans on the market.

The Drop+PC38X open-back gaming headphones are solidly built and comfortable, but the Sennheiser has a slightly better overall boom mic performance, although the drop has significantly better bass precision.

I am a little disappointed tough because I couldn’t detach the mic. But then, I also don’t consider it to be very disadvantageous. The Drop + Sennheiser PC38X Gaming Headset is extremely comfortable.

These headphones have a high clamping force, but you don’t really feel it and they feel light on your head.

The headband is comfortable and you can replace the microfiber ear pads with velour pads included in the box. It should be comfortable to use even during long gaming sessions without fatigue.

Pros
  • Great delivery of sound
  • Can feel the boom in the bass
  • Light-weight and comfortable
  • Mic offers great recording quality
Cons
  • Doesn’t have a companion app
  • Limited or no customization options
  • Seems a little on the higher side price wise

Sennheiser has been consistently adding improved headsets to its audio segment. If you want good audio quality for gaming, Sennheiser GSP 500 is a good option you can opt-in.

The addition of dedicated gaming products to its range is consistently doing very well and expanded the brand to the gaming peripherals sector.

This makes it a very popular player in the gaming headphones market segment. However, if you’re one of those who have not considered Sennheiser in the gaming space as yet, the GSP 500 Open-Back acoustic headset will change the way you think.

After using these headphones for a couple of months, I could make it clear that they meet the need for audiophiles who also love to play video games, as opposed to peripherals for audiophiles.

In my title and every sub-title, I am talking about the open-back headset. Therefore, the GSP 500 is also an open-back headset.

What does this suggest to me as a publisher and to you as an end-user?

Well, this means these open-air cans offer a more natural soundscape as there is no cover on the back to capture sounds around your ears.

In addition, when you listen to the audio sound, you will feel the natural sound without isolation. At the same time, this also has the welcome side effect of cooling ears.

The problem is that whatever you’re listening to leaks out of your headset and everyone can hear you. Of course, outside noise creeps into your ears during quieter moments, but I think it’s worth the sacrifice for an overall richer soundscape.

The GSP 500 offers a very wide spectrum of sound with a frequency range of 10 to 30000 Hz. I found it on the extreme highs because the extreme ends of this spectrum are actually beyond the range of human hearing power.

Since you have decided to invest in a very headset, you have to shell out a few more bucks than on any ordinary headphones. So, these headsets are on the higher side in terms of price.

Pros
  • Very good delivery of sound quality
  • Good Mic performance
  • Easy to control volume wheel
  • Delivery of a high-frequency range
Cons
  • Price may not be suitable for everyone
  • Little bulkier than other counterparts
  • Doesn’t offer a detachable Mic
  • No isolation by design and nature
